Mridang-The Annual Night

The annual cultural event of Geetanjali hostel, Mridang, was celebrated on 13-Mar-2015 with great enthusiasm. Dr. Neelanjana Singh, President DUWA was the Chief Guest and Prof. Umesh Rai, Director South Campus was our Guest of Honour. As every year, the artists among the resident students participated in decorations of the stage and created a breathtaking colorful "Rangoli" in the entrance lobby. This year, a statue of Maa Saraswati, was unveiled by our Chief Guest. Our provost, Prof. Mridula Gupta, requested the chief guest to initiate the program by lighting the lamp. Dr. Neelanjana Singh then addressed the students and briefed them about the activities of DUWA, also extended an invitation to students to visit the DUWA souvenir shop in North Campus. Our warden, Dr. Manisha Goel, then welcomed the guests, the three judges for the evening (for judging the performances) and all the residents. Our eminent guests and the judges were gifted a flower pot by the residents as a token of our appreciation and welcome. After the welcome, the two comparers took the stage by storm and invited the participants who had several performances lined up. In the midst of all the song and dance, the prizes for annual sports completion (in carom, chess, badminton doubles and singles, table tennis doubles and singles) were given away by Prof. Paramjeet Khurana. The prizes for other talent hunt contests like creative writing (Hindi and English), painting, photography and collage making were given away by Prof. Nirmalya Samanta, an eminent English professor at DU and an expert on Film studies and photography. The three judges definitely had a tough time deciding on winners for the "Best dancer" (won by Ms. Ami Chaubey) and "Best Singer". An impromptu award was also included for the "best performance", which was bagged by the team of Manipuri dancers. The three judges then gave away the prizes for the evening and the provost invited everyone for dinner, along with her vote of thanks. After the delightful dinner, it was the DJ time and the residents and their guests had great time dancing to the latest hits mixed by the DJ. The party finally mellowed down around midnight. See you next year!
