Mridang-The Annual Night

The annual cultural event of Geetanjali hostel, Mridang, was celebrated on 4-Mar-2016 with great enthusiasm. Prof. UmeshRai, Director South Campus had kindly agreed to be ourChief Guest. This year, the residents held a competition for designing the invitation cards and the best was chosen by the Provost. As every year, the artists among the resident students participated in decorations of the stage and created a breathtaking colorful "Rangoli" in the entrance lobby. This year, the program started with the lighting of the lamp before the statue of MaaSaraswati, by our provost Prof. Mridula Gupta, along with other honorary members of the Managament Committee and other distinguished guests like the Provost, Men's hostel at South Campus. Our warden, Dr. ManishaGoel, then welcomed the guests, the three judges for the evening (for judging the performances) and all the residents. Our eminent guests and the judges were gifted a bouquet by the residents as a token of our appreciation and welcome. After the welcome, the two comparers took the stage by storm and invited the participants who had several performances lined up. In the midst of all the song and dance, the prizes for annual sports completion (in carom, chess, badminton doubles and singles, table tennis doubles and singles) were given away by Prof. Indraneel Das Gupta. The prizes for other talent hunt contests like creative writing (Hindi and English), painting, photography and collage making were given away by Prof. SimritKaur. The three judges definitely had a tough time deciding on winners for the "Best dancer" and "Best Singer". An impromptu award was also included for the "best performance", which was bagged by the team of Manipuri dancers. The three judges then gave away the prizes for the evening and the provost invited everyone for dinner, along with her vote of thanks. After the delightful dinner, it was the DJ time and the residents and their guests had great time dancing to the latest hits mixed by the DJ. The party finally mellowed down around midnight. See you next year !
